Written by E Kennedy on March 16, 2013

As the end of winter season approaches one special holiday that’s sure to put a spring to your step is St. Patrick’s Day! By mid-March everyone in the Northlands is getting antsy for spring and summer festivities to begin, and St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect holiday to kick things off!

Our JoeShade portable umbrellas come in green – perfect for the unpredictable weather that March may bring to your Saint Patrick’s Day celebration!

St. Patrick’s Day is an annual event that includes a party, parade, Irish stories and stout! You can count on the streets of every cit being filled with people dressed in green and may even see a few leprechauns heading in to one the local Irish pubs.

However, March is a weather iffy month and there is no guarantee that you’ll get a pot of gold day. In the past, I have spent St. Patrick’s Day grilling in my backyard and sun bathing with friends on the roof of Murphy’s Pub! Other year’s I have stood like a loyal Irish lassy in the rain, snow and sleet watching our annual parade and giving out hundreds of kisses!

With so many years celebrating I still manage to forget some of the essentials for making it weather happy day! I often wish I had brought along sunscreen or a poncho and my portable umbrella to protect me and my friends from the unpredictable weather. I can say from experience that I have been caught many times unprepared and let me tell you, it’s not fun! So for all my Irish kin, and friends that claim to be Irish for the day, here is my list to ensure your St. Patrick’s Day is filled with fun, good food, humor and the luck of the Irish.

Find Your Pot of Gold Under a Portable Umbrella

  1. Whether you are on your way to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade or just chilling and grilling in your backyard, you’ll need a cooler full of your favorite Irish beers to share with family and friends. I recommend that you grab a variety and start your party with a ale tasting.
  2. Your weather may be sunny or raining, windy or calm but don’t get caught unprotected. A sunburn can be just as uncomfortable as dripping wet hair and clothes celebrating your day outside. Remember to bring your green JoeShade portable umbrella to your parade and party. You and your friends will be happy you did!
  3. Along with your green portable umbrella, remember to wear your best Irish clothes so you can really get in the spirit. You may even create a contest among your friends to see who has received the most Irish kisses.
  4. If you’re throwing a party, don’t forget all the Irish music for those who want to experience an authentic Irish celebration and may be even a little jig. Here’s some suggestions courtesy of Yahoo’s Top Ten St. Patty’s Day Playlist:
    • Beer, Beer, Beer
    • The Rocky Road to Dublin
    • Whiskey You’re the Devil
    • All For Me Grog
    • Dring It Up Men
    • Finnegan’s Wake
    • Seven Drunken Nights
    • Drinking in the Day
    • The Wild Rover
    • Irish Drinking Song

This year celebrate St. Patrick’s Day right and be prepared with all the necessities to be comfortable and festive all day. As the Irish say, “May the leprechauns be near you, to spread luck along your way. And may all the Irish angels, smile upon you on St. Patrick’s Day.”
